SCI Greene Release Destinations

SCI Greene is a Pennsylvania Department of Corrections institution. It is a maximum-security state prison for men, not an extension of Greene County Prison. A person leaving SCI Greene may parole to community supervision, discharge when the state sentence ends, move to a community corrections placement, transfer to another state institution, enter a hospital, or pass to another legal authority. The fact that someone is no longer housed at SCI Greene does not identify which event occurred.

A parolee may remain visible because parole is continued state supervision outside prison. A discharged person has reached the end of the state custody and supervision reflected by the controlling record. A transfer remains incarceration. Read the exact locator status and facility or supervision data, then seek a PADOC record if the result does not clearly show the event at issue.

Confirm an SCI Greene Release

Search the official PADOC Inmate/Parolee Locator by person. Do not search by Greene County alone, since state prisoners can transfer and state parole supervision is organized across Pennsylvania. Use enough identity detail to avoid confusing people with similar names. The public locator is a starting point, not a substitute for the underlying record when the exact date, authority, or destination matters.

1. Enter the person's identifying details. Use the name and any known PADOC identifier.
2. Open the matched record. Confirm that the identifying details and institution history fit the right person.
3. Read the exact status. Note whether the record points to incarceration, parole, another placement, or a release-related status.
4. Check the decision trail. If parole applies, compare the locator with the person's Pennsylvania Parole Board action.
5. Request clarification from PADOC. Seek the existing release, discharge, or transfer record when the public result is unclear.

A favorable Pennsylvania Parole Board action is not itself the actual release date. Institutional processing, an approved home plan, a detainer, and other legal authority can affect when the person leaves. For a historical event, the state record that shows the date and type of exit carries more weight than an earlier projected date. Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know Law applies to Commonwealth agencies subject to its exceptions and other controlling laws. The ordinary written response period is five business days. Discharge ends the state sentence or supervision shown by the controlling state record. A person on parole is no longer confined at SCI Greene, but remains within PADOC and Parole Board authority. The locator may therefore continue to show that person as a parolee.

For parole, obtain the individual's Board action when the reason or decision date matters. The Board does not publish a public, name-searchable decisions database. Pennsylvania regulations generally protect parole records, while 37 Pa. Code § 61.2 makes a brief statement of reasons for granting or refusing parole open to inspection at Board offices. A request to the Board should identify the individual and seek that specific Board action or brief statement.

SCI Greene has a Reentry Service Office for people within eighteen months of their minimum or release date. The official facility material says reentry parole agents coordinate workshops and connections to services. This work helps prepare for a possible lawful release, but participation does not prove that parole was granted or that a date is fixed. The locator, Board decision, and actual PADOC event remain the sources for status.

Release planning can include an approved residence and coordination with supervision or service providers. Those steps may affect readiness for a parole release. They should not be read as a public promise that a person will leave on the minimum date. When a family member sees a planning milestone, the sound next step is to ask for the current state status and controlling decision, not to infer a gate date from the program timeline.

SCI Greene Release Hold Distinction

Greene County Prison publicly states that it runs an NCIC check before every county inmate release. A detainer or wanted status found there can stop release to the community, and another county's detainer can result in surrender to that authority. That is a documented county-facility procedure. It should not be presented as SCI Greene's published procedure merely because both facilities are in Greene County.

The underlying distinction still matters for an SCI Greene search. PADOC and the Pennsylvania Parole Board may need to account for detainers, other sentences, and receiving authority before a planned state release can occur. Confirm those matters through the person's PADOC record and Board decision. Do not apply the county prison's stated NCIC workflow to SCI staff, and do not treat a move out of SCI Greene as proof of community arrival.

SCI Greene Transfer Records

A transfer is one of the most common reasons a person may vanish from a facility-specific view while remaining incarcerated. PADOC can move a person to another SCI or qualifying placement for classification, treatment, security, medical, program, or administrative needs. The public locator may reveal the new location, but the exact reason may not be public. Ask PADOC for the event record when the date and destination are the relevant facts.

This differs from a county transfer. If Greene County Prison sends someone to PADOC, the county jail episode ends and the state custody episode begins. If SCI Greene sends someone to another SCI, the same state system continues to hold the person.
